This fully funded program removes all financial barriers to participation. Eligibility Criteria – Clear & Competitive

Educational Background: Currently enrolled university students (undergraduate or graduate) or recent graduates (within 12 months) from accredited institutions worldwide. Early-career professionals under 30 with demonstrated civic engagement also welcome.
Academic Excellence: Minimum GPA of 3.3 or equivalent (on 4.0 scale). Academic performance demonstrates your commitment to excellence and ability to handle program rigor.
Age Requirement: Between 20-32 years old during program dates (February 2026 – January 2027). We focus on emerging leaders at formative career stages.
English Proficiency: Fluent English required. The program is conducted entirely in English. Proficiency in additional languages highly valued but not required.
Civic Commitment: Demonstrated passion for civic engagement, democratic values, international cooperation, or global leadership. Show through volunteering, internships, projects, or leadership roles.

Step-by-Step Application Process

The McCain program seeks thoughtful, committed leaders. Follow these steps carefully and be thorough:

Step 1: Create Online Account

Visit the McCain Institute official website and access the MGLP 2026 application portal. Create your secure account using a valid email address. You’ll use this to track your application status throughout the process.

Step 2: Complete Personal Profile

Fill in comprehensive biographical information including name, contact details, educational background, current institution or workplace, field of study, and passport information. Ensure accuracy as these details determine eligibility.

Step 3: Submit Academic Credentials

Upload your official transcript showing GPA, courses completed, and academic standing. If your transcript is in a non-English language, provide certified English translation. Current academic records (within 3 months) preferred.

Step 4: Write Leadership Statement

Compose a compelling 500-600 word essay addressing: “Describe a civic or leadership challenge you’ve witnessed or experienced. How would you address it with a global perspective?” Be specific, thoughtful, and authentic.

Step 5: Provide Academic References

Submit contact information for two academic professors or professional supervisors who can attest to your leadership potential, academic ability, and character. They’ll receive direct reference requests from McCain program staff.

Step 6: Upload Supporting Documents

Submit your CV/resume highlighting leadership roles, volunteer work, and international experience. Include a copy of your passport’s biographical page. All documents must be PDF format, clearly labeled, under 5MB each.

Step 7: Complete Health & Travel Assessment

Complete a health declaration form and confirm your ability to travel internationally and reside abroad for 12 months. Provide any relevant medical documentation. Answer questions about your adaptability and flexibility.

Step 8: Submit & Await Interviews

Review all information carefully before final submission. Submit complete application before 15 February 2026. Shortlisted candidates (approximately 75 applicants) are invited for video interviews in March 2026.

Step 9: Final Selection

McCain program committee reviews interview performance, essays, and references. Final 25 participants are notified by 30 April 2026. Accepted participants receive detailed program information and onboarding materials.

Will I have say in which countries I’m assigned to?

The program structure includes Greece and Vietnam as core locations. Your preference may be considered during matching, but all participants are expected to accept placement with flexibility. Country assignments are determined by program fit and organizational needs.

What if I don’t speak Greek or Vietnamese?
