Eligibility Criteria – Clear & Inclusive
- Educational Background: Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate students (any discipline), or recent graduates (within 24 months) from accredited universities worldwide. Early-career professionals under 35 also welcome.
- Academic Performance: Maintain minimum GPA of 2.8 or equivalent. Academic standing should reflect responsibility and commitment, though we value diverse talents beyond just grades.
- Age Requirement: Between 18-35 years old during residency dates (February-March 2026). We welcome participants at all stages of their educational and early professional journey.
- Language Ability: Basic English communication required. The program is conducted in English with some Swedish cultural immersion. Knowledge of Swedish is not required but helpful.
- Heritage Interest: Demonstrate genuine passion for cultural heritage, sustainable development, or international cooperation. Show through academic focus, volunteer work, or personal commitment to preserving cultural traditions.
- Project Proposal: Submit a clear description of your intended project for the 50,000 SEK grant. Your project should contribute meaningfully to heritage preservation or cultural understanding.
- International Background Encouraged: This program actively welcomes participants from all countries and cultures. Diversity enriches the learning experience for all participants.
- Physical Fitness: Basic fitness for living in rural farmhouse setting and participating in heritage activities. No extreme fitness required, but flexibility and openness to physical work valued.
Step-by-Step Application Process
The application process is designed to understand your passion for heritage preservation. Follow these steps carefully:
Step 1: Access Application Portal
Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Sweden program website and locate the 2026 residency application portal. Create your account using a valid email address that you check regularly.
Step 2: Complete Personal Information
Fill in your biographical details, current educational institution or workplace, field of study/work, country of residence, and contact information. Ensure all details are accurate and current.
Step 3: Submit Academic Records
Upload your current transcript or academic report showing GPA and courses completed. If in a non-English language, provide English translation. Recent documentation (within 3 months) strongly preferred.
Step 4: Describe Your Heritage Project
Write a detailed description (400-500 words) of your intended project for the 50,000 SEK grant. Explain what problem you’ll address, how you’ll implement it, expected outcomes, and impact on heritage preservation or cultural understanding.
Step 5: Write Personal Statement
Compose a compelling 350-450 word essay explaining your connection to cultural heritage, why this residency matters to you, and how it aligns with your professional goals and personal values.
Step 6: Provide Professional References
Submit contact information for one academic professor or professional mentor who can speak to your abilities, reliability, and commitment to cultural heritage work. They’ll receive direct reference request.
Step 7: Upload Documentation
Submit your CV/resume highlighting relevant experience, volunteer work, language skills, and cultural interests. Include a clear copy of your passport’s biographical page. All files must be PDF, under 5MB.
Step 8: Review & Submit
